Re: Hospital visit imminent
As you know I went into Hospital last Sunday (17th May). The reason I had to go in on Sunday was because the hospital needed me there before 8.00 am on Monday to start a regime of medication in order for them to proceed with the treatment and tests on Tuesday. This, I was informed was imperative. So off I trots with the help of one of my wifes friends and I get to hospital for 4.00 pm Sunday. When I get there no one knows owt about me and there is no food for me at tea time ... so they give me some bread and butter and a luke warm cup of kitchen dregs. the Nurse then comes around at 9.00 pm and tells me to get a good nights sleep and be awake for 5.30 so they can start the medication and do my blood tests etc. 10.00 pm a young doctor comes around and informs me I have to go on an insulin/glucose drip to which I say not a chance thank you. The lights on the ward eventually go out around 12.30 - 1.00 am ... but no chance of sleep because the various monitors on the ward are buzzing and beeping all night and the nurses seem unable to fix them. Come 5.30 I get ready for the start of this very important medication and am still waiting at 10.30 ... no breakfast and no lunch they tell me despite my documents telling them I'm diabetic and I can have a light menu up until 4.30 pm that day. 11.00 am another 'specialist' comes to examine me ... he's a LIVER specialist ... He tells me they are going to start the medication at 4.00 pm in the afternoon. This would mean no sleep on Monday night either as they have to keep giving me the 'medicine' until 3.30 am the following morning. It would also put the tests back till 4.00 - 5.00 pm on Tuesday evening. That was the last straw ...I signed my self out and came home. Because I couldn't contact my 'lift' as she was at work and Pauline doesn't drive I had to get a taxi .., £30 down the drain. So there you have it ... everything went wonderfully .... not.

Re: Hospital visit imminent
Hi Ray- Just popped in to see if everythings OK with our members.to find that you are in the clutches of our Fine NHS. You may think from the word fine that I am being sarcastic about the service, but I am not for I think by and large its a good system once you get past the Door,
By signing yourself out you will probably get a real good sleep !!!
I was always told that half of the "cure" is to be positive in your attitude, be patient during the process of assessment and diagosing your problems, and be happy when you are told that you have chosen the short straw when things go wrong. My wife has undertaken all of these things and has chosen the short straw twice. She is now being assessed again for a possible faulty Mitral Valve, and whwn told it may lead to more surgery. how many straws are left in my and which is the shortest!!!
Myself, I am Diabetes, Hypertension, and overweight, need a single bypass, I was reffered to the Freeman and when interviewed by the surgeon, He asked how did I come to get to see him.
I said I was refferred by the cardiologist at sunderland.
He said the risk were greater for a person with my problems, than the rewards that a single bypass would bring and therefore he would not offer an operation, and just keep taking the pills.
Since then I have felt a lot better, knowing that.
Regards and sincerely hope you get things back on track
Fred
